Behind the Profile with Sara Mitchell Sherman

Behind the Profile : Ctrl+Alt+Del investigates teenagers and the impact of technology and in particular, social media. The ensemble has created a movement based project surrounding the collective thoughts on privacy, perception and distortion within the use of technology. Each participant explored how one may be constructing their identity and how technology and social media could have effected their growth. Is someone’s identity a perception of how they want others to perceive them; do their peers, society, television, Facebook, etc. construct their identities before they have a chance to find out who they are?

Every member of the group created original choreography where each movement was carefully selected through various task-based improvisational exercises to make them their own indivual expression. Each youth participant used video and video editing where the movement is the primary element instead of a conventional narrative. The group also created their own sound track for the piece using found sound and sound that they recorded on their own. Each collaborator worked to discover not only who they are but who they are as movers and creators.
